I know that the resistance is affected by both the gauge and length. It increases as the gauge goes up (wire gets smaller) and increases with length. The left channel wire is much shorter than the right channel wire, so it makes some sense to use a smaller guage. Still, both are well within the distances set out in the table in Roger Russell's article on speaker wire.
