As long as the end user likes how it performs, that's all what matters.....If you want proof, you need to investigate on your own. This is what a normal engineer would do.
If someone likes how a car performs, would you expect him to know scientifically why that car performs well? Of course not!! It needs to be investigated by those who better understand science. All the end user has to do is provide feedback on what he likes and doesn't like, which could be valuable in such an investigation.
