Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Not quite

One things for sure stereo two channel audio is old technology. I'm not going to deny that major engineering efforts have allowed many to enjoy so much more for so much less but these advancements are not heralded as major technological steps foward. How could they be it's still stereo pretty much the same as it was 40 years ago.

My point is that so-called audio experts who are spouting the new improved technologies bringing significant improvements to 2-channel audio are simply whistling dixie or more bluntly FOS. And other than the quality improvements that the masses have enjoyed because of the advent of digital there really hasn't been a major steps in the quality of reproduction in many years.

Someone wants to claim they are an expert in two channel, stereo, audio? Fine I say they are a bore and I'd like to add that their track record over the last 40 years just goes to prove it.

I quess there's nothing like demanding respect for beating the same old dead horse.

And maybe I'm just technical enough to be clueless but the thought of using multi-channel audio, feedback and equalization to map one listening environment into another excites me to no end. Stereo should have went the route of the typewriter many years ago. But I've said this before and I'll say it again - why would engineers and scientists make the effort to more accurately reproduce sounds/music when those who would fund it are so easily satisfied simply spending more money next time on their next 2 channel audio equipment upgrade.

At one time I would have naturally assumed the next round of technical advancements would be driven by those of us involved in perfectionist audio. Now though I know I've been wrong. The next round of technical advancements in audio reproduction is going to be driven by other markets. Maybe gaming or video - most audio perfectionists seem willing to settle for conspicuous consumption under the quise of cutting edge technology even though most teenagers are capable of seeing it as old, boring and insultingly expensive.
