I've heard that, in general, every 10 or 15 years have your home inspected, as if you were buying a new one. The inspector will check out your wiring as part of the whole speil, and let you know if anything is broken, wearing out, or so out of code that you should have it fixed.Otherwise, just get a master electrician in there to clean things up. I'm lucky enough to have a brother-in-law who is a ME, he came over to install some undercabinet lighting, and found all kinds of problems in my electrical boxes which he fixed (mostly related to add-on boxes that were poorly patched in to the main panel.)
