Taking the simple example of resampling from 176.4 to 44.1, yes it it true that we have 4 samples to choose. But assume you choose sample 1 from the first 176.4 sample and sample 4 from the next 176.4 sample. Isn't the time/phase information being compromised? We should always take a specific sample or find an average. Randomly choosing a sample to maximise amplitude does not sound correct to me! What do you say?Also BTW, I just ripped some tracks from the Tutti disc. I was surprised to note that the peak level on some tracks was 99.9%!! This is surely higher than average! But I have not yet analysed the track.
