They're still out there mostly because they're cheap to build, and because to the untrained eye they look impressive. In the pro-touring sound ranks ($2k and up) they've been pretty much supplanted by folded horn subs loaded with twelves and fifteens.
BTW, DR15 is a full-ranger, not a sub. If that's what you want look at the Tuba series (loaded with tens thru fifteens, no eighteens).
