Bill- I think that the Mackie SWA subs are intended to be a "Hey, what the hell is that?" variation on a 4th order bandpass, but they forgot the brass bell! It seems to me that if one wanted to improve upon the efficiency of a bandpass, that perhaps horn-loading the driver itself (instead of the front chamber) may-- or may not-- be a better idea. Also, doesn't a bandpass work a little better if the vent is placed so that the driver is buried from direct view?
