I think you need both but you may be able to stay near your budget. I would recommend a Rode NT1 for acoustic guitar and airy vocals. If the vocals need to be thicker, I would look into a cad e100, if just clean and clear is what your after, I often see akg c3000s used for $200. I do not like the AKG 4000 or 2000 for anything but very thick vocals- they make guitars sound honkey IMO.

I think you do need a mic preamp which would make your 57 sound better too. I really like the presonus stuff but it might be a tad out of your budget. The joe meek preamp compressor eq box is great sounding for the money and would only be a little over your budget, otherwise, I would look into the art line. te very low end stuff has a little higher self noise but it sounds good.
