Most common mixers have something called inserts, which is a tape loop for each channel. Best mixers will have insertable subgroups, and insertable main outs.An isert jack is a RTS 1/4" jack that has 2 1/4" TS plugs connected to is. Mixers vary, where the tip will be send on some, the ring is send on others. The subsequent 1/4" TS jack is used for return.
If you want to "tape loop" or alter 3 out of 5 in the mix, insert on those three channels. Or assign those three channels to sub1, the other 2 channels to sub2. Insert sub1 and then you assign sub1 and sub2 to main out.
