Depends on the power needs. Tuba 24 is not really much higher in SPL, and with a shorter path has a higher Fc. But it's larger mouth means it needs no boundary loading. The response is perfectly optimized for real-world pro-sound needs, with the maximum SPL where you need it. It kills a direct radiator 18. Or two for that matter. For 100-150 watt usage I recommend the Beta 10, great SPL for minimal cost. For higher power use the Eminence HL10a, its high Bl and excursion handle the high throat pressures at high power very well. Above 150 watts or so the Beta suffers from power compression and distorts; the HL10a doesn't, though it's a bit less sensitive at low power. The Peerless has far too low Fs for horn loading, the HL10a is only ten bucks more $.
