I'd say six of one, half a dozen of the other. The digital cable is immune to noise pickup, but the additional D/A conversion could add some noise; the balanced to unbalanced conversion will also add some noise. In either case the S/N shouldn't be too adversely affected. I'd try running unbalanced out of the Behringer first to see if it's OK that way; 17 meters isn't that bad at line level if there isn't too much local interference about.
