Clearly this is *possible* .. but is it doable?
As an aside, some of the most highly regarded orchestral recordings from the 50s and 60s used only 2 or 3 microphones. Did they fiddle with levels during performance to bring out solos and different instrumental sections, etc...? Or did they set everything and then let it go?
