If you already have the DVD and the mixer then do it. You can always go for something else at another time. I'm not familiar with your board, but if it has direct channel outs, or channel inserts which will serve the same purpose, you can bypass most of the mixer stages anyway to keep as high an S/N ratio as is posssible. I do know that Mackie pres are better than what you'll find for the firststage in most consumer 5.1 receivers.
