Everything, Bill, is a compromise. The all-in-one's may not have as many external connections, but their ultimate quality suffers for it. Many of my connections, by the way, are AES/EBU digital to avoid the pitfalls of too many analog switch points. Flexability vs. sound quality is always an issue for pro-audio.
