I would recommend the following:
Purchase a Tascam DAP1 with ecco charge battery ($1700)
Purchase a Lunatec V2 preamp ($1100)Purchase one of the following mic pairs:
Pair of Lawson L47fet ($2600 pr) Large diaphram thick and warm sounding mic, my favorite.Schoeps cmc64 ($1800pr) Small diaphram reasonably priced pair. Very open sounding extreme detail and clarity- you could go for the schoeps 4v's but will cost 2x as much.
Neuman KM 184 ($1300 pr) small diaphram have some warmth while retaining good detail and openness.
DPA 4011 ($4k pr)the king of real sounding mics. if you put in crap youll get crap, if you put in beautiful sounds youll get that back.
Other than this you could add an apogee ad1000 a/d converter for $1800 or at least a grahm patten for $400 which would add to the sense of realism. You can check out Mark Nutters stuff at Sonic Sense, he can get you a reasonable deal on a whole rig powered from a single source.
