Listening to some field recordings courtesy of Rounder and Lomax last night I got the idea that I too would like to make some field recordings or at least record an oral history or two of people that I know whose conversation I would like to preserve for posterity.I am curious as to what people would recommend for making such recordings. I have heard good things about Mini-Disc but do not like the idea of a lossy codec. What would people suggest for a reasonably priced, battery powered recording rig for taking down oral histories and the odd musical interlude in the most faithful and practical way possible.
Is it the right thing to go strictly digital or is there still a space for analog in all this and the digitize it later so as to edit it on a PC?
Very curious, Jeff
