Hi Paul,I bought one of the first Ultracurves and had problems with the battery freezing as our gear sat in the truck in the winter. The EQ would loose it's memory. Very bad for live sound when you store room curves for the usual places you play once a month. Found out the Behringer software won't work with the earlier units unless you upgrade the chipset...bummer! Didn't now much about MIDI at the time but I ended up using a basic version of Cakewalk and assigning the sliders in the mixer portion to the continuous controller channels that linked with the specific frequencies on the Ultracurve. Then I could store as many curves (files) as I needed and name them specific things-"motters1" Never could get it to be bi-directional so I had an "all freqs at zero" file stored and worked from there in a new room. I could grab a slider much quicker than moving up and down with the cursor keys on the front panel...bonus!
I ran it all out of my HP laptop with a cheap game port/midi cable. Worked out fine!
Hope this helps,
Tom
