Is this a deal breaker? Tell the guy you will get him a nice modern synth, no way can you get a 35+ year old rare finicky POS. There is nothing the old Mellotron can do that a modern synth cannot do.The guy probably doesnt even need it, just put that in there so if he had a contract problem, he can say, well they did not get me the Mellotron I specified.
Put some extra beer in the dressing room, another platter of sandwiches, and tell him to get his butt out there and earn his money. And if he wants his money, he can earn it with a Roland.
