I was thinking about this the other day -- you hear a lot about the quality of various mastering decks (analog) and associated gear, but if you're mastering pop/rock material, you're often using a Dolby A or SR decoder as part of the process. Correct? Maybe not all the time, but a good deal of the time. (My recollection is that Dolby A was used longer ago, while SR is typically found on more recent masters..?)[Or, it may be that people track to 2" and playback with NR, then use no NR when putting the mix on 2-track. In which case, this post becomes moot!]
Anyway, ya got yer Manley $X,000 tube tape head pre's and yer $X0,000 modified Studer mastering deck and yer fancy cables... what about the Dolby card? Is this "The Weakest Link"?
