The Hi Fi VCR is an alternative. I master at 32 bit 384KHZ.No one uses a 2" for mastering because you are mastering a 2 track.
2 track on 2", your track width is 1/12 of an inch. 2" reels are designed for multitracking 24 tracks.
1" is 16 track (worse) and 1/4" was considered a dynasaur in 1989.
Nagras can be used for mastering but the prevelent format is DAT, or Hard drive.
No...your assumptions of Rock/Pop are way far from the truth.
I do Chamber Orchestra, full scale Orchestra, College and Universitys, Live NPR productions, Jazz combos, smooth Jazz (a'la Bob James, Boney James...not Kenny G) Piano Solo works, Nationwide advertisements for Proctor and Gamble, voice overs, station identifcation..(over 300 stations)High quality archiving..(yes that includes baking the tapes at 130 degrees to rejuvinate the glue backing on the mylar, Forensic research for Law enforcement Federal, State and Local. Archiving historic works for the Smithsonian institute.
Negative comments without first hand knowledge are damaging to my credibility, and are costly. I invite my clients to this board to see the interaction. When a client see that "I am a piece of shit" from a poster, then the Millions of dollars of future work and the serious 26 year investment in this art, and the hugh investment in equipment become at stake. Please try not to post anything but fact my friend. That is what I do. Some of it may seem far fetched...but truely if you were in my shoes and have a few hours a day to participate in the forums, the last thing you want is someone guessing about others talents and skills. Their are over 70,000 studios in the USA alone. They vary from full scale to project. Any one of these studios are a candidate for clients in this very very competitive business. I see multimillion dollar facilities closing EVERY DAY...I know because I buy equipment from them. Please do not discredit me to the point where I am added to the list. This is what I do to put bread on the table and support my family. This board will be here with your responses many years from now. Remember the addage...On "oh shit" kills 50 "atta boys"? Well 3 years from know...your negative comments will be on this board for the world to see. It takes time out of my schedual (at 55.00 hR) to repair the damage that those do by misrepresententing me. I have actually lost a contract from one poster on another board, and He is being held for Lible. Looks like I will win the case....I have truth and documantation on my side.
