Tonite I'll be doing sound monitoring at a Montgomery Gentry concert and if the sound system is typical there will be a 48 channel board (at about $2k per channel, and that's only FOH, another does monitor duty) and enough processing gear to fill the back of any of the thousand or so very large pickup trucks that I expect will dominate the parking lots. At the other end of the scale very few garage bands lack 31 band EQs and a DSP or two. If you want to hear totally unprocessed sound about the only place you'll find it is in the half-time marching band, and then only if you're in the stadium.
