I would get another player exclusively for music and run the Behringer through that. You need a CD or DVD player that has optical outputs. In this scenario you will not be using it's DAC so only the transport quality matters (you don't need to spend a bundle of money).This is the best way to hook it up: Transport -> Glass Toslink -> DEQ 2496 -> XLR-RCA Adapter + Interconnect -> Preamp
This method will keep you in the digital domain and using the Behringer's modern DAC's.
You can buy the Neutrik XLR-RCA adapters inexpensively from Markertek (link below). Alternatively, some companies like Hosa make XLR - RCA cables if you want to skip the adapter.
