I haven't used the Lawson fet, but their tube L47 is to die for, Gene Lawson's build quality & design goals are top notch, hard to go wrong w/ that choice. The BLUE mics all strike me as specific tools for a specific need; none of them are "Swiss Army mics" so unless you *know* you need the sound of the Blueberry it might be too particular a flavor to be as versatile as you might hope.Have you heard the T.H.E. large diaphragm caps for their KA-04 bodies? The 1" (model number is something-25, I think) is extremely neutral, accurate w/o any overt coloration, and rewardingly versatile. It's like the SM57 of LD condensors, I've yet to try it on an instrument or voice where it didn't sound just fine. And if you want some Flayvuh, the 1.25" (model number is something-33...33mm, get it?) has that classic LD vocal sound in spades. Either mic ought to run you just over $1000 for the cap & body.
If you found the Shure KSM-32 too bright for strings, have you ever tried a KSM-44? I've never used one for strings either, but I find its top end considerably more "rounded" than most sub-$1000 condensers, it's often my go-to mic when I want to tame something strident without dramatically rolling off treble.
