Re: Blame conglomerization.

I toured the JBL factory in Northridge back in the late 1970's. What I thought was weird was that they were still using paper voice coil formers on their pro woofers when most other companies had already switched to Kapton or similar, or were using aluminum. It's true that aluminum can be damaged when a speaker "bottoms out" but aren't there still more advantages to getting away from paper, such as heat dissipation? That's ancient history now, but I still remember that they were slow to change. They were a much more conservative company before the big buyout and the management there were first class folks. (At the time, I was a rep for their consumer line.)
