Free Recording Software?

Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

I don't need anything too fancy. I will be using it primaraly as a mixdown platform. And my soundcard (M-Audio Audiophile USB) only supports for channels of recording at a time anyway. I need metering and basic cut and past editing and not much else. I will be using all outboard effects for mastering, etc. I would like the ability to record up at up to 24bit 88.2kHz. Any input would be welcome,
