Its not a question of tube vs solid state, it comes down to high quality professional tools versus mass market cheap products. The Neumann U87 solid state microphone is a high quality professional tool. It is a much better microphone than hundreds of cheap tube mics. On the other hand, there are professional tube microphones that are incredbily good microphones. Quality can be achieved through many different types of designs.steve
