luxury problem

Hi there,

I might seem rather spoiled, but the fact is: I own nothing but tube microphones. I always thought they are the best, so I bought some the SE Electronics tube mic's. I used to have a AKG c3000 and of course, compared to the high quility se electronic mic I was forced to believe tube microphones are superior to the transistor versions. I felt like the godfather of microphones for a long time for having tube microphones only, but today there is a little doubt in my mind. I wonder if they are the best choise on every sound sourse on witch large diagram microphones are used ( I don't use them on amp's(dynamic's) and accoustic guitar (small diagram condensers).
When they are indeed the best choise, why are top studio's using the u87 so often? How about grand piano, drum overheads etc?

Maybe some of you have both types of microphones and are able to help me out.

thanks in reply and greetings from Holland,

Hans
