I have used one for a while. I use it in live rigs on the vocal insert of my vocal bus and I have kept one in my studio with infrequent but good use. It does do the smiley face curve but also does a little bit of EQing and sounds pretty good. I would NEVER run a whole mix through one but certian channels sound good. It also helps make cassettes sound better- both recording and playback
