It's murder on hi fi bass reflex, subsonics ignore Xmax.
The subsonics also wreak havok on a lot of the low level electronics, and can force clipping in a low level stage , even though output rails are not reached. Bye bye silk domes.

Try some 8 inch seleniums and piezo's or small tweet horn. Pad the horn down 6 to 10 db, use a 5Khz to 8Khz 3rd order for highs, depending on mass rolloff of woof. Sealed cabinet. Don't worry about a 3 to 6 db dip in 2khz to 5 khz range. I'm running 6 selenium D501TI units for high end, 6 times 300w, but they would be overkill for bedroom. Try the eminence small tweets.

Should be adequate. Not exactly hi fi, but definitely more robust.

Give him some real good advice about hearing loss potential. Keep in mind: most scratch dj's I've known run the headphone (cue) volume way too high to compensate for the recognition loss of using one ear, this will be the main hearing loss contributor!!
