To automate your present console would require replacing your faders, or taking direct outs to another set of faders which are automatable. Almost all automation systems run on midi, so you will need to control with some sort of computer system. Cost wise it will be prohibitive, so I would suggest that you look to mixing within your computer system. Use your desk as a nice set of mic amps and recording channels, and to monitor your music computer output. If you want to have a tactile computer interface mackies new controller is available for nearly all audio programmes. I believe it costs around $1200.Regards
