Watch out for the phillips consumer model. Phillips did make a domestic CD recorder, but it used different standard discs from the usual CD recordables. These were more expensive partially as a measure to combat piracy. Needless to say they bombed pretty much in the shops and Phillips must have bulked them out, because loads appeared on the shelves of box shifting outfits. If it is one of these units, don't touch it! Seconhand/refurbed units, should also be looked at carefully. Depending on how much use and abuse its had, it might not be the bargain it seems. If you can afford it, I would strongly reccomend buying the cheapest new Marantz as your best way forward.
