My feeling is that in terms of audio quality, "pro" equipment is usually behind "consumer" products. Much of "pro" audio equipment is built for reliability and abuse because those are the conditions that they are exposed to. Obviously, there are exceptions to this rule, but if you want to save money, many cheaper "consumer" products will outperform the "pro" products.
