On a real 'pro' machine, quality of contruction is usually much higher, which contributes to a good machine, plus the converters will often be better resulting in a better sound. A lot of the time so-called 'pro' machines are just normal hi-fi units with a different front panel and rack-ears stuck on. I have a Tascam CD601 which was built specifically for the broadcast market and had no 'consumer' equivalent. If you don't need the heavy build and special features, you're fine sticking with a good domestic player.
