Just like a Pultec, the front end is passive.In terms of 'sound molding' I really think that you might be on completely the wrong track, if you want to do anything drastic. -It's a gentle bass cut/bass boost, a (very) gentle treble cut, and only the high frequency boost has any bandwidth control.
If you're looking for a gentle massaging of the sound, these are great. -If you're looking to roll up your sleeves and get 'in amongst it' with some serious EQ'ing, I'd get something fully parametric.
