Or your breath on the mic. Or background noise. All mic systems are going to output some noise, and if you turn up the gain enough, you will get hiss that will change according to where the mic is, where the cord is placed, etc.
If you are a beginner to microphones, mics are very sensitive. They pick up sounds that you don't usually notice. Especially if the gain is turned up and you are using headphones.
