Re: Pro Amp without a fan for subs

I assume you are using the sub for home cinema purposes thus the reason for the unacceptable fan noise. In this case I have found that the Yamaha P series amps (the P7000 in particular with 3200 watts RMS) offers really exceptional power / price / weight performance and along with their highly efficient EEE engine and switching power supply technology hardly generate any heat thus keeping the multi-speed fans almost always off. And even when the fans do startup, they only turn for a few revs at very low speeds producing no audible sounds. My setup uses one P 7000 driving an Audiobahn 18” in a 12 cf tuned enclosure for some really earthshaking effects.
(Note only the P7000 & P5000 amps have the switching power supplies).

I have also use the Yamaha CP 2000 amp (2000 watts RMS with no switching power supply) that has only one fan with equally satisfactory results. I would tend to believe that the Yamaha P 4500 could also fall into this class with slightly higher power and lower distortion, but I have not tried it myself.

All of these amps can be purchased from eBay although the CP 2000 is seen much less often now-a-days
