Fwiw they changed the ipad to accept external storage. I use a 512g microsd card with the iPad. Not sure what the limitation is for that but if it can do sd cards it prob can do big drives too. I could do streaming of course but can use the normal pc for that.

It wont play well on this forum but using a "dongle" dac you can have a completely battery powered front end. In theory at least. I am still using my Schiit Eitr with the USB connection but could test. And FWIW those little dacs often sound better than a big Hifi Dac. At least when upsampling to DSD. Amazed how a $70 dongle is beating in several areas my expensive hifi dacs. The main one makes a big deal about current drive.
