Doesn't all this depend on whether your DAC reclocks or not?

If your DAC reclocks my understanding is jitter is a non-issue.

If that's the case the isolation from EMI that optical provides gives it an advantage over the other solutions, including arguably USB, as there is still an electrical connection to the computer.
