Not complicated at all. Literally 3 minutes and you can check it out.

Most of the time with these Firewire drives it's the controller that dies first. Though I have had drives fail. I have had more controllers fail and at least you can recover from the controller.

$25 and your done...

I always buy these enclosures for my 2.5" drives. When I get a MacBook now the first thing I do is get a 120gb or 160gb drive and put it in then take the 60 or 80 and put it in one of these enclosures and use it for back up or what ever.
