Apple Airport 24/96 or 20/88.2

Just curious if anyone else has experimented with high resolution AIFF files through the itunes/airport music distribution system. I have several airports in the house hooked up to primary and secondary systems and a home audio niles system in different rooms. I just got an Alesis Masterlink ML-9600 to rip LP's to CD and then to iTunes. I've been recording the LP's at 20bit/88.2k and then burning red book CD's for iTunes. It sounds great. Just to see what would happen, I created some CD24's from the Masterlink, which are AIFF files in 20bit/88.2k. The files played fine on iTunes/Airtunes, with a Bit Rate of 4233 kbps displayed on iTunes. However, I couldn't transfer this AIFF files to my iPod.

What have others done in my situation? Do you settle with the Redbook copies and then convert to Apple lossless or do you go with 24/96 or 20/88.2?
