You have a great budget but why waste it all on a computer. Why not get a Mac Mini with the optical out and also get a 400GB hard drive via firewire to put all your CD files if you want in AIFF format. Or you can use Apple Lossless and save some space.Then you'd have some money for a quality DAC. I just got the Lavry DA10 and have nothing but accolades for it.
If you try adding in an Airport Apple Express you can still use a glass tosslink cable to a DAC and achieve great sound results.
Then you can have some money left over for new muisc and other stuff.
