Im in a similar situation. I have basically sold off my big stereo system since it was barely getting any use and was just collecting dust. I do alot of work onmy computer and most of my music listening while sitting at the computer. I just recently built a pretty high end dual core system and would like to setup a nice sound system around it. I got a bit disapointed when i saw how crapy the speakers they sell for computers are. The one decent one I found was from Klipsch and even that wasnt anygood for music, but great for games and movies! So I kinda gave up hope. Then i was visiting a freind of mine who does some ameteur digital recording. he had a very nice sounding setup. He was running a Benchmark DAC-1 and a pair of active Mackie hr824 monitors and the sound was awesome! So i am now in the market for a nice set of active monitors to use with my computer. I would love to get a pair of those big Mackies but they are bitlarge and expensive for me right now. I have been looking at the M-audio bx5, and im glad to hear that you have them and are happy. How do they do with hard rock music?? Do they play reasonably loud?? How is the bass?? Do the need a sub?? Im alsolooking at the Wharfedale Diamon 8.2 pro actives and a few other monitors. Did you listen to anyothers besides the M-audios?
thanks
Frank
