modding my modded SB

Hi, I will not tell who modded the SB, but....
I think that it is not bad job but
there was something wrong...I am going to explain.

Actually i was so disappointed with my modded
SB that i decided yesterday eve ( in england )
to put my hands into it.
I was so suspicious with the sound: no high extensions
no pace (on piano that was miserable), no image, there
should be a cap somewhere...
So I did something simple: I removed all the caps!
And it just worked fine...
Get the pace, real image sound of instruments.
I am surprised that on big orchestra the sound is
quite "relaxed". You get it without distorsion...
- i mainly listen to classical music: i tested
Opera, orchestra, voices, chamber music, piano,
violin

So it seems that by the end of the day a SB with
*all output caps removed* sounds good...
But I don't know whether this is really the thing to do anyhow!
I am using a pre with a stepped attenuator wich opens
the circuit when i change the volume. Not pleasant to any ears.
So i plan to put a resistor in parallel of the outputs.
Also I am pretty sure that the length of the interconnect
cable is still an issue - and one has to care about the
impedance match SB/Pre. I might get more dynamics with shorter
cable.

My system is fine I guess -
pre and set amps by Georges Wright
with fullrangers AER. There are woofers
38cm cutting with a 3rd order at 120Hz.

Hope that this helps. I think SB quite good
for the price actually... (But get rid of the caps).

Cheers,
Vincent
