Read this article , the mini didnt get such good marks as a media computer, but that was for the g4 cpu version maybe the intel one is better?? Personaly I dont think the Mac mini is the bargain people are lead to believe. Again im mainly talking about the older g4 model as i havent used the intel version yet. The origional Mac mini sold for a base price of $499 which seems like a great deal until you realize it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers...etc also you have to look at what your getting for your $500. Besides a really cool and tiny case, your getting a very basic low end computer. 1.25mhz G4, 256megs ram, 40gig 5400rpm hd, 32meg ati9200 video card, and a cdr/dvd drive. So you start to realize its not the bargain it seemed like. Once you add a few options like a dvd burner and 1gig ram and a screen your looking at closer to $1000 for a very low end computer. Now im not trying to put down the Mac mini or anyone who owns one, I think they are really cool, they just arent a bargain as many people thought when they saw that origional $499 price tag, and they arent very upgradeable. All that said the new Intel version may have solved many of these downsides, but they are quite a bit more money. If your looking at the Mac mini you might want to check out the Imac or a laptop instead. You can most likely get good deals on the PowerPc versions of the Ibook/Powerbook and Imac G5 now that Apple has madse the switch to Intel. Also there are some Windows based mini comuters on the market now, Aopen makes amac mini look alike

it uses Intel as well and may be worth a look. There are also a bunch of other mini pcs available and you could always build your own as wel.
