Re: OTL's and Quads

Don't get me wrong, Quads are wonderful wonderful speakers, probably my second choice in the whole world, but if you want "dynamics and bass" you might never be satisfied with an ESL. ESLs deliver coherence (if it's not a hybrid design) and the ultimate in transparency, but have problems, relative to big honking electrodynamic speakers, with just those areas you cite (dynamics and bass). The large full-range Sound Labs speakers are the best ESLs available for those two qualities, IMO. There are a number of hybrid speakers (ESL midrange paired with conventional woofer) that attempt to get around this problem by combining the two technologies, but I have never heard one of those designs yet where the cross-over between panel and woofer was not easily audible. Otherwise, I've said it before that OTLs and ESLs are a match made in audiophile heaven. Despite what I've written, I encourage you to go for a full-range ESL and match it with an OTL of your choice. Get the largest panel area you can afford for best bass response; it's a simple matter of math and physics.
