I think that's one of those huge resistors made of oddball materials. I don't think it's ideal, but who am I to say it won't sound good? Ideally, you want a resistor with the lowest possible noise. Metal film or bulk foil types are generally good. I use nude Vishays. Caddock TF020 would also be excellent.
