I agree, Lew.Ralph's power regulators in both my MP-3 and M-60s were quite audible upgrades, as were V-caps in both.
As for tubes, the differences, to my ears, have been very subtle. Nonetheless, I do hear differences that justify my tube rolling.
For me, the MP-3 lineup is:Chinese military 6N8P-J ("A-matched" from DIY HiFi Supply) and either RCA blackplate 12AU7 or TungSol 5814;
In the M-60s:V1 = Sylvania 1952 6SN7GT (yep, the bad boys - I tried not to like them due to cost, but...) or KenRad clear glass 6SN7GT (essentially the same naturalness, but about half or less the cost)
V2 = bypassed
V3 = Chinese military 6N8P-J ("A-matched" from DIY HiFi Supply)
V4 = Soviet 1970s vintage 6H8C made at Moscow Electrolamp factory (the ones with "1578" inked on the bottles); another pricey tube, but a guy from the Ukraine auctions pairs on Ebay with a very low start price. The 1980s tubes from the same plant have dull (not shiny) plates and lack the "1578" stamp as well as the sonic virtues of the original.
