FWIW, 12AU7, not 5687, is a 9-pin mini version of the 6SN7. So also is the 6CG7. 5687 has much lower plate resistance and much higher Gm than the 6SN7 or those other two. For some reason the 6SN7 just sonically blows the doors off the two 9-pin minis that mimic its electrical properties, IMO.
