Re: 6sn7 tubes for MK60 MKII.2

Welcome to the Atma-Sphere group. Everyone has their own list of favorite 6SN7s (or 12SX7), and their own sources of supply. Unfortunately, the surplus stocks of 6SN7s have been depleted and there is a lot of hoarding going on. Your best bet is to start with the list of links on the ASOG links page, and contact each of the tube vendors.

My favorite type for the voltage amplifier and cascode tubes is the Sylvania Chrome Dome. I'm using Magnepan MG-20 speakers with the ribbon tweeters, and this tube gives the most natural treble sound, in my wife's opinion as well as mine. She is a professional musician, and knows what real instruments should sound like. Your perception of brightness may be due to problems with your B&W speakers. It is likely to be frustrating for you to try to find a dull-sounding type of 6SN7 to compensate for mechanical resonances in the B&W tweeter. However, if you are not in a position to change your speakers right away, you might want to try Raytheon brown-base 6SN7WGTA. My listening notes for these tubes contain the comment that they sound like someone poured chocolate syrup on the music!

Good luck with your tube searches.
