Transformer upgrades

I've spent the last week reading about transformers and I couldn't be more confused. Several of the tweaks have mentioned upgrading the transformers as part of the tweak. Which part of the specifications are important to stick to and which ones do you overshoot?
M-60 MkII
Anybody have opinions about Brands, part numbers, specifics would be appreciated? My brain hurts.
